Core themes
From Eye Surgeon to Healer
The brothers trace their father Harvey from a well paid but unhappy eye surgeon, drafted to Vietnam and put in charge of mass casualty triage, to a doctor who came home wanting to help everyone. After a naturopath fixed an eye case he had wanted to operate on, he learned the injection technique, used it, and was reported to the medical board by six doctors. Josh recounts how Harvey then wrote the law creating the first homeopathic medical board, in Arizona, only to lose his license over Medicare billing codes he had been told to use and be turned away by homeopaths he had licensed.
Raids, Charges and Carrying On
Adam picks up the story in Mexico, where Harvey worked freely through the 1990s and appeared on Coast to Coast with George Noory. Back in the States the family ran an office in Lake Tahoe that the California and Nevada state line cut straight through, then a Nevada City clinic that was raided after a local dentist objected to Harvey's radio remarks about dentistry, with the microscopes seized and a single false advertising charge over a relabeled French remedy the only count that held. Josh admits the whole saga left him gun shy and credits Adam with pushing him to teach.
The Problem Is the Soil
The brothers call their framework the terrain paradigm rather than a theory, and Adam asks why farmers welcome microbes and parasites in soil while people wage war on them in the body, arguing that bacteria, fungi and parasites live symbiotically with us and clean up a toxic terrain. In this view pathogenic simply means out of balance, and their father's insistence that the body never attacks itself leads them to reject autoimmune as a label for a body worn down by years of trying to heal. Chance adds a biofield observation, a cooties zone he finds in most fields he tunes, like a fire ring across tree stumps.
Images in the Blood
Adam describes how clients often recognize an image in their own blood before anyone explains it, since a picture stops people in a way talk cannot, and Josh admits to leaving a holographic image on screen until clients work it out themselves, which he sees as taking the fear of the unknown out of the person. Josh passes on Harvey's view that emotions are a thousand percent behind illness, but insists the emotion becomes physical, pairing anger with the liver and fear with the kidneys and taking pressure off the organ so it can process the feeling. Chance compares it to revealing patterns during tunings.
Word Sorcery and Chronic Time
Josh takes issue with the alternative health world calling herbs antibacterial or antifungal, arguing that nothing in nature is anti and asking, after Masaru Emoto's work on words, whether that label weakens an herb before it is even taken. Chance hears a sorcery in medical language: the correct methods get called alternative when they are the native ones, germ points to generative origins, and antibiotic means anti-life. In his closing reflection he ties chronic illness to Kronos, measured time, describing a model of masking symptoms where people stop seeking to heal and simply wait to die, which he says humanity needs to move beyond.
