Core themes

5 themes
1

Divination as a Conversation With Yourself

Chance sets divination apart from fortune telling, calling it a conversation with yourself, and says whatever he is egoically stuck on never stops turning up in the cards. Rachel describes her practice as a visual conversation with the divine that leads her down pathways she might not have thought of. A second guest from the Telegram group says her morning rune pulls show the theme of the day and what she is not looking at, and that ego or fear driven questions get a different answer than the one asked.

2

Runes as Glyphs of Nature and Wealth

Rachel sees the runes as glyphs that grew out of pictographs, patterns of nature that describe growth the way Chance's I Ching hexagrams do. She lays out the Elder Futhark as three sets of eight and opens with a pair of cattle runes: Fehu, the herd you own and work with symbiotically, and Uruz, the wild ox, the free abundance of nature, like the wild kale in her yard. She links those runes to tarot pentacles and Taurus, and shows the set she made herself from bottle caps instead of wood.

3

A Spiral Hero's Journey Up Yggdrasil

Asked about a hero's journey, Rachel reads each set of eight as a stage up the world tree Yggdrasil: arrival on earth, Raidho the horse and the journey, a gift that comes with a sacrifice such as an old belief, and finally joy. The three sets move from the foundation of being, to time and cycles, to stepping into your own divinity. She calls it a spiral rather than a circle, since no fall is ever the same fall, and Chance ties it to eternal return and the paradox of freeing your will into the cosmic will.

4

Isa, Ice and the Present Moment

Rachel names Isa, the ice rune, as a favourite and draws on the Havamal, attributed to Odin, where ice sits among the things you cannot trust. In her reading ice is the now moment, with only an illusion of stability, so she treats it as a lesson in healthy non-attachment and being okay with mistakes. She places the past with Hel, Loki's daughter, the underworld of ancestors and memory, and describes the whole Norse cosmology as a balance of fire and ice. Chance adds that the present is a narrow band between the two.

5

Odin, Peter Pan and Growing Up

Chance says so many people tell him Odin or Hermes visits their dreams that he wonders whether the figure is a mature higher self. Rachel sees such gods as ancient ancestors, says the father archetype is surfacing as an era shifts, and cautions against treating Odin and Hermes as one entity, a point Chance concedes. Chance then reads Peter Pan, since pan means all, as an inverted All Father stuck in eternal childhood, and Rachel adds wolf cults of Odin and the Aries challenge of keeping an inner child alive.

“If there's ever something that I'm stuck on or holding on to egoically, it becomes that much more synchronistic with the divination tools.”
“If we are God or source energy, that doesn't make you above nature, above anyone else.”
“For anyone inexperienced with divination, that's really the whole game: that you have both sides of the brain working in tandem.”
“Your life is not the pinnacle of all culture or expression that's ever existed in the realm.”
“To dive that deep you have to hold your breath, hold your tongue. All the masks and personas that you're projecting have to fall away.”
“In a strange way, it's like gaining ultimate freedom and relinquishing control at the same time, and that's a strange paradox.”
“Pan means all, so Peter Pan is like an inversion almost of the All Father. It's like that energy being stuck in the pre-developmental stages.”
“Instant gratification. I want zero consequences, I want to be bailed out for everything that does go wrong, and that's the eternal childhood Neverland wish.”

Kyle and Serena Denton are community herbalists creating wild-crafted and organic plant medicines out of Milwaukee since 2015. I have used their teas and tinctures on an almost daily basis for years now. Kyle is a great friend of InnerVerse and has appeared on the channel more times than I can count. These products work, not in the allopathic "pharma-medicine" way, but in a terrain-support, consciousness bolstering plant-teacher sort of way.
