Chiron and the Identity Wound Explained

Davin explained that Chiron was discovered in 1977 while in Aries, was reclassified several times as an asteroid, a comet and a planetoid before astronomers settled on the label centaur, and was named for the wounded healer of Greek myth. He argued that the object's struggle over classification echoed the centaur's rejection by his mother and his search for where he belonged. Davin defined identity as self-awareness plus a sense of belonging, called a blockage in either one an identity wound, and described his Chironversations series as a place for people to tell their stories.

2

Accepting the Wound Instead of Fixing It

Davin argued that Chiron's wound was never fully cured but could be accepted and worked with, and that people carrying a given wound were best placed to help others in that same area, pointing to Chiron's glyph as a key. Rachel cautioned that endless healing could become stagnation that kept people from their full potential, and Davin agreed that staying stuck was no goal. Chance described noticing his harsh inner critic give way to supportive self-talk that felt like being cheered on, and wondered aloud whether that was what people meant by guides.

3

Where the Chiron Story Came From

One participant asked how a body found in 1977 could match a myth so closely with how Chiron shows up in birth charts, and offered two explanations, that the object was known long ago or that the myth shaped the chart readings. Another participant proposed a third, that an ancient culture once held a complete view of the sky, lost it, and later rediscovered the pieces like a scavenger hunt. Davin said he did not know whether the myths placed Chiron in the sky, and the group traded references linking Chiron to Sagittarius.

4

Horses, Archers, and Symbolic Connections

Mario said the half serpent king Erichthonius was likely the figure behind the chariot card, which opened a long run on horse and rider symbolism. Rachel described a horse rune as standing for good relationship with nature and partnership, and the group compared horses, boats and chariots as symbols of journeying. Davin described the sign before Sagittarius as a stage of transformational letting go, followed by Sagittarius developing the aim before releasing the arrow. One participant argued that the Chi Rho symbol and Hebrew letter values tied Chiron to a healer and messiah archetype.

5

Art, Self Trust, and Real Stories

Davin said he had drawn since childhood, paused for long stretches, and only recently began formal study of figure drawing at 46, while sharing his work online opened new ideas about art. Chance argued that making it up as you go is what creative source does, and said trusting his intuition in tuning sessions and podcasting taught him not to feel like a fake. Davin closed by describing an open invitation for ordinary people to share real stories in a Chironversation, recalling a time before the internet when people traded stories outdoors.

Quotes

“An identity wound is a difficulty, a trauma, or a blockage of energy that occurred somewhere that's interfering with one of these domains, either your sense of self-awareness or your sense of belonging. For a lot of people, it's both, because these things are related.”
“Every time Sagittarius comes around, I feel as though it's one of the most human signs in the zodiac personally. And I'm always reminded of the Chiron story. And I think that this identity wound in a way, it's part of the human condition, right? As being physical creatures and spiritual creatures and walking this line.”
“That's how powerful these myths are and why it's so important to work with them. Because when we're looking at these ancient myths, they were built up over generations and generations and generations of human experience. And there is so much psychology written into this.”
“You know, we don't stop the process and we're always working on our Chiron. We're always, always doing this. And I think that's the thing, if we're always in a healing phase, then we're never recovered and we're never immortal. We don't get to live our full potential. We stop ourselves and stagnate.”
“But it's also because you are deeply wounded there, you understand that wound better than anybody else, except for other people who also have that exact same wound that you do. But the people who have that same wound, they have the capacity to help other people in that same domain, whatever that domain is where they're wounded, because they understand it so well.”
“When it comes to the programming, most of us embrace innately at the beginning of life or some people through their whole life, this inner critic that is so harsh on everything that we do, coming down on the smallest infractions with extremely difficult self-talk. That's like taking your wound and just ripping the scab open over and over again and not letting it really heal.”
“There was a point sometime recently where I started to notice that the self-talk in my voice or in my head was really supportive and almost felt like a third person thing. Like, wow, Chance is doing great right now. Chance is crushing. And that was when it clicked for me. I was like, is this the guides?”
“I'm just going to throw this out there real quick. It's fascinating that the Temperance card, the Art card, corresponds with Sagittarius itself.”
“It's crucial to be able in all areas and walks of life to trust yourself so much that you can be making it up as you go and still not feel like a fake, still not feel like you don't have the goods or the credibility because that is the goods. That is being connected to source. That is being original. That's what source is doing.”
“This is something we do throughout our lives, navigating this little dance between these two different domains. And it's like we kind of have to satisfy both. And then part of finding balance and harmony is finding a way that's both beneficial to ourselves and also to our family and the other people around us.”
“I know so many bands sold out in 2020. And I still love so many of them, but there's also a big part of me that's like, man, I can't jump on your train anymore because you're just part of the machine. So are there underground shows going on that I didn't hear about? Who's making good and true music now that's telling the truth?”
“At that time, because there was no internet, people were not sitting inside and meeting online. Everybody was hanging out outside and talking to each other. And I used to hear the most amazing best stories and meet the most interesting people all the time. And I'm trying to recapture some of that.”
