Core themes
Money as an Alchemical Working
Chance opened by arguing that there was no economics without alchemy and no money without the occult, and he built the evening around Tracy Twyman's book Money Grows on the Tree of Knowledge. Homie Romie said the book traced how Western money tied back to alchemical practice and to magical workers such as Bacon, and he connected that to banks shutting down that week. The conversation also noted that Twyman wrote a second money book, Solomon's Treasure, and Mario said he owned an original copy.
Serpents, Shekels, and the Dollar Sign
Chance showed a Tyre shekel bearing two pillars and a serpent wrapped around a tree, which he said looked like a dollar sign, and he linked it to the brazen serpent of the Hebrew scriptures. He argued that the Hebrew words for serpent and Messiah shared a gematria value of 358, and he suggested money was therefore cast as a cure and a savior. Mario argued that the central pole in Freemasonic art represented the world axis and the pole star, and that the saying money makes the world go round referred to it.
Cain, Coinage, and Temple Wheat
Chance argued that Cain, coin and corn were linked by language, and he suggested money was a confidence game run by an ancient maritime priest class. Homie Romie read from Twyman's book that coinage began around 3000 BC in the temples of Ishtar, where a bushel of wheat bought a coin and the coin bought a visit with a priestess. Romie added that he saw modern workers selling themselves for money in a similar way. Mario said Freemasons may call each other brothers in reference to Cain and Abel.
Templars, Cipher Notes, and Tithes
Chance recounted the lore that the Knights Templar found something beneath Jerusalem and then built what amounted to a banking system, with depositors receiving coded notes redeemable at another castle. Romie shared slides describing the order as warrior monks who moved money safely, and Chance asked whether Philip the Fair destroyed them for their wealth. Chance also argued that the tithe, a tenth passed up a chain of districts, belonged to an ecclesiastical system older than Christianity.
Gold, Fiat Money, and Time
Chance described the 1933 order requiring gold to be surrendered to Federal Reserve banks and argued that the gold standard had been replaced with a time standard that attaches self-worth to hours worked. He read Twyman's claim that fractional reserve lending ties the money supply to velocity, and that the modern economy compels even useless work so the transformation of paper into gold feels real. Chance concluded that a person's time is their real spiritual currency.
Quotes
“But the fact is, there is no economics without alchemy. There is no money without the occult.”
“And then it just turns out a couple days ago, the banks started shutting down all over the place. And there seems to be alchemical workings in the sky. And so this book is about the literal alchemical history and how money associates to the alchemical practices, how it's always connected.”
“And when you're dealing with Freemasonic symbolism, there's always the twin pillars and there's an implied third pillar, or first pillar I would say, right in the middle, which is emblematic of the world axis. So to me, what I see is a world tree, and the palm tree was symbolic of the world tree.”
“I was just recently thinking about the saying, money makes the world go round. That's a direct reference to the world axis, in my opinion.”
“That just kind of reminded me of everything you just said, like this central star, this North Star on the top of your spine, that inner eye, that inner light, and that alchemical transformation that is required to do within in order to have the alchemical properties outside.”
“I like to think of these planetary concepts as all one big organism. These planetary bodies, conceptually and psychologically and spiritually, metaphysically, are like organs that serve different purposes. And at a certain time of the year, these organs have to coordinate so the life can flow.”
“I learned recently that Draco was an archon of Greece, who was very draconian. This is where the word draconian comes from. And he came along and started imposing laws such that every little violation was a death penalty, was capital punishment for every little thing.”
“And so in that way, it makes a lot of sense to associate money with mercurial symbolism, because that's what you want money to do. You want it to flow, you want it to exchange hands, you want it to be passed around, things like that.”
“The very, very original, according to the historical narrative, purpose of coins at the onset was for prostitution. And that's literally what most people are engaged in when it comes to making money right now. Maybe it's not sexual prostitution, but there is a selling of yourself for money.”
“There's this whole idea that Cain was the first of a line of dark magicians, or that he was the first person that initiated the left hand path because he killed his brother. I know that this is a thread within Freemasonry and some other groups that they believe, at least symbolically, magically, ritualistically, they come from the lineage of Cain.”
“What is important, I think, to understand about the whole process of our modern age is that the gold standard has been replaced with a time standard. This has caused so many problems in people energetically.”
“I'm talking about making widgets and doodads and advertisements and all kinds of stuff that has no actual tangible reality, right? Yet people have to work this 40 hour or more work week because that's part of this system of turning the paper into gold and actually getting our time to convert to gold for people at the top of the chain.”
“Your time is your spiritual currency. It's your attention. It's the only thing that you get here that actually constitutes your life or your power or your real self. What you do with your time is everything.”
